Ready Set Speak provides a variety of speech and language support services for children with special needs. Services can be provided in the child’s home, at school, or in community settings, and are provided on an individual contract basis. The support services provided focus on development of speech-language, communication, and play skills.

Assessment
  • Ready, Set, Speak provides assessment in the following areas:

  1. Receptive/Expressive Language

  2. Speech Sound Production

  3. Pragmatic Language/ Social Communication

  4. Play Skills

Intervention
  • Play-based approach

  1. Hanen Programs

  2. It Takes Two to Talk

  3. Learning Language and Loving It

  4. More than Words

  5. ABC and Beyond

  6. Target Word

  • Direct one-to-one therapy sessions with a Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Development of Individualized Program Plans (IPP/SPPP) with long-term and short-term objectives specific to each child’s needs.

  • Introduction and use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Devices

  • Motor Planning Based therapy for children diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)

  • Social Thinking approach for children with social learning challenges.

  • Development of pre-literacy and phonological awareness skills.

  • Intensive intervention for children with complex needs

Consultation And Coaching
  • Developing communication goals and individualized support strategies

  • Coaching for parents, caregivers, and educators interested in learning how to support development of speech-language, social communication, and play skills at home, school, and in the community.

  • Supporting implementation of specific intervention strategies, activities, and techniques in a variety of settings.

Creation Of Specialized Materials
  • Visual supports

  • Schedules

  • Social Stories

  • Picture Exchange Communication Systems

  • Support to setup AAC devices

  • Modified educational activities

Professional Developement Training
  • Small group training sessions on topics related to speech-language development or specific speech-language intervention programs or techniques can be provided upon request.

About

Shannon Kushniruk is a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist who works with preschool and school-aged children with special needs, to foster development of their speech-language, communication, and play skills.

 

Shannon firmly believes that children learn best through play and that parent involvement in the intervention process is crucial for success.

 

Shannon is experienced in providing home, school, and community-based services and enjoys collaborating with parents, teachers, and other professionals.

 

Shannon holds a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Alberta and a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Utah.

 

In her spare time Shannon enjoys yoga, hiking, spending time in the mountains, going out to dinner with family/friends, and spending lots of time with her husband, two young children, and dog.

Covid

Covid

  • Please review “COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist” prior to each session. If you answer YES to any of the questions for any person in your household, please  cancel. You will also be asked these questions at the beginning of each session.

 

  • You will be asked to sign a COVID-19 waiver form to indicate that you understand and accept any potential risk of attending an in-person session.

 

  • All adults present for the session (SLP and parent) will wear a mask and/or maintain 2 meters of physical distance for the duration of the session.

 

  • If Shannon needs to remove her mask at any point during the session to provide effective speech-therapy a face shield will be worn.

 

  • Please limit those present during the session to the child receiving speech-language services and one parent (no siblings).

 

  • Proper hand hygiene and cleaning of treatment materials will be utilized.
